Fabric Stretch and Recovery Explained

Definition

Stretch = how far fabric extends under tension (measured as % of original length). Recovery = how completely it returns to original dimensions after release. Good activewear fabric: minimum 75% stretch, minimum 95% recovery. Poor recovery causes bagging at knees and elbows. Lycra significantly improves recovery over generic spandex.
